The Biohappy Sat Story

From a small family farm to a leader in organic agriculture, explore our journey of growth, innovation, and commitment to sustainable farming.

  • 1919Belda's Garden was built in 1919 and has been in our family ever since

The name comes from my maternal grandfather's surname. The farm has two houses, as my parents, who were neighbors, combined their plots when they married. Additionally, our paternal grandfather was also a farmer and owned his own land, part of which was added to the current project. Our father already practiced ecological practices, although no certification existed at the time. Not using plastics, recycling everything, and planting legumes to improve the life of the land have always been present in our lives.
  • 2008This dream began in 2008

My family had always spent summers and vacations on the farm, soaking up the fresh country air, so I had a connection with the land since I was a child. We dedicated ourselves to taking every course we could find on organic fruit and vegetable cultivation, as well as a two-year biodynamic agriculture course to acquire the necessary theoretical knowledge. For 20 years, we have diversified our production and, in addition to oranges, mandarins, grapefruits, and a few lemons, we also grow persimmons.
  • 2011We began the conversion, obtaining the Valencian Community organic farming certificate in 2011

We obtained the official organic farming certificate from the Valencian Community, formalizing our commitment to responsible and environmentally respectful production.
  • 2015Demeter Certification

Biohappy Sat received international recognition for our sustainable farming practices, winning the European Organic Farming Excellence Award.
  • 2025Today, the land is not tilled, organic manure is used, we have a water channel as a wildlife reserve,

we plant hedges, we use biological fauna to combat pests, and so on. We try to conserve and improve our little piece of land for the future generation that already exists.

Our farm is located in the province of Valencia (Spain)

specifically in the La Ribera Alta region, between the municipalities of Algemesí and Guadassuar. It has 14.25 hectares certified as organic and biodynamic agriculture, of which 7.66 hectares are planted with orange trees, 3.87 hectares are planted with persimmons, 2.1 hectares are planted with mandarins, and 0.62 hectares are planted with red grapefruit. The persimmon variety we cultivate is bright red, its name derived from the fact that it is initially green like all fruits, until it reaches its characteristic red color. The persimmon, unlike citrus fruits, is deciduous, losing its leaves during the winter months and sprouting again in spring. We also have our own walnut, apricot, plum, quince, and jujube trees, along with two beehives for pollination and for their orange blossom honey. Orange and persimmon trees are mainly grown in the surrounding area. The farm is irrigated by drip irrigation with water from the Acequia Real del Júcar (which runs through it), a canal whose construction began in 1258 and is one of the oldest irrigation systems in Spain.

The surplus production is sent to Cottolengo,

an organization that cares for chronically and terminally ill people without financial means in Spain, Portugal, and Colombia. Cottolengo is an institution that welcomes people with mental and/or physical disabilities and is supported solely by voluntary contributions in cash or materials. However, we also allocate part of the surplus harvest to producing dried persimmons, with the goal of being able to eat them as a snack year-round.

Our dream has always been to sell to the end consumer

and control the distribution chain so that the fruit reaches its destination in the best possible condition. We are very aware that fruit must ripen on the tree, in the sun, and be harvested when it has the optimal level of nutrients, as this is how the fruit's life passes to humans. As the Greeks said: "We are what we eat." We believe in Organic and Biodynamic Agriculture, in the goal of improving our land and our environment, in increasing biodiversity, and in being able to deliver our fruit to homes sustainably.

I hope my fruit arrives in perfect condition and that you can enjoy it.

Direct from the field to your home!
